Native to China. New shoots emerge in April. Can tolerate full sun or partial shade. Typical Seattle height 16 feet. One of our top selling clumping bamboo varieties. Excellent for privacy hedges. May require a rhizome barrier if planted near other plants or close to property line in your landscape.

A nice clumping bamboo for pots. Can tolerate full sun, but likes some shade. Rufa at our nursery get 5 to 6 hours of sun each day. Need more watering in summertime when grown in small or medium size pots.

Upright culms having light to dark brown cane. Needs some shade. Most nitida have flowered in the last 9 years or so. Our new seedlings are about 7 years old. They will not flower for another 80 to 90 years. Safe bet to purchase bamboo seedlings.

A small leafed clumping bamboo that needs some shade. When exposed to more sun, cane truns reddish purple. Maximum height in Seattle 10 feet. No more than 2 to 3 hours full sun each day. Excellent for planting in medium to large decorative pots.

From Pingwu, Sichuan. Orange sheaths as F. dracocephala 'Rufa' but with more culm wax. Culms turn purplish brown when exposed to direct sun. Excellent clumping variety for planting in larger pots. Will tolerate full sun. Shade is ok too. Still quite rare.
